Exhibiting at Crick Boat Show 2023

Following on from the success of the offer made at BoatLife, the Aqueduct Marina team in Cheshire are offering some real savings at this year’s Crick Boat Show to help you enjoy your narrowboat in 2023.

Any narrowboat owner visiting the Aqueduct stand at the Crick Boat Show between the 26th and 29th of May, and holding a full-price admission ticket, should visit the Aqueduct stand V-BW to get their ticket stamped. This can then be exchanged for either a free week’s mooring, worth £154 or one free use of the slipway, worth £160; terms and conditions apply. Come and visit us for all your narrowboat needs, especially if you have any work that needs to be carried out on your boat.

And if you are thinking of selling your boat, sign up today with Aqueduct’s brokerage for it to be displayed at Crick to give it the best chance of reaching a potential buyers eye.

Both ticket options will enable boat owners to use Aqueduct Marina as a mid-cruise safe harbour in 2023, as it is within easy reach of the Llangollen, Macclesfield and Caldon canals.

The Church Minshull marina’s significant savings are something everyone is looking for during these difficult times. SBS BoatLife 2023 hailed a success!

The SBS BoatLife 2023 exhibition at the NEC was hailed as a success by the Aqueduct Marina team, who described the event as “positive”.

The Cheshire-based marina received a number of strong enquiries for moorings, together with interest from brokerage buyers, those considering selling their boat and owners interested in boat repairs. Much of this interest was generated by Aqueduct’s offer of a free weeks mooring or a slipway use.

Robert Parton, Aqueduct’s MD, said, “I believe we had a decent few days because the show had grown from last year’s first year, the weather was better, so the trains ran and most importantly, the inland sector had a much greater presence, with a decent number of boats to view. All this created just enough footfall. I also think it is excellent for the inland sector to be in an exhibition such as this which combines both inland and coastal leisure boating.

Robert echoed the views of many other exhibitors in saying, “The timing in February is excellent, with customers just starting to think about the summer ahead, and because the main season hasn’t started yet, marine business and their staff are able to get to the show.”

The team are looking forward to a busy season and next year’s show which, it is hoped, will continue to go from strength to strength.

Congratulations Phil and Angus!

Phil Langley, from Aqueduct Marina, and Angus Maughan, from Overwater Marina, have gained their Certified Marina Manager qualification from Tony Dye, Global Marina Institute’s Chair of Europe and the Middle East. GMI is a partnership between British Marine and the Marina Industries Association, the industry body covering Australia, with the aim of delivering global marina training and certification.

Upon the successful completion of their course, which required the submission of comprehensive portfolios of their experience, credentials and references, Phil and Angus have boosted the number of inland marina staff who currently hold the CMM qualification. The majority of those who have successfully applied and been awarded have historically been employed at coastal marinas. Phil and Angus can now fly the flag for inland marinas while demonstrating their professional competence.

The two recipients are based a few miles apart at their respective marinas, a short distance from Nantwich in Cheshire. After receiving their awards, Phil said, “he is delighted to be accredited as a CMM following his attending the advanced Marina Managers course early in 2022”.

Aqueduct Marina’s MD Robert Parton added, “The CMM/CMP network is a very strong international network of marina professionals and managers. It is excellent to have two more inland waterways representatives joining. Well done to Angus and Phil”.

Business of The Year 2022 Winners
We are over the moon to announce that we won the Business of The Year (+25 employees) award at The South Cheshire Chamber Business Awards.
Naturally, we are delighted to have won this award. It was yet again, a fantastic evening at Reaseheath College surrounded by numerous local businesses celebrating success.

Thank you to the Chamber for shortlisting us in the awards and another special thank you to Cheshire College – South and West for interviewing us at the judging stage and presenting us with the award on the evening.

Winning this award means a lot to us and it shows just how far we have come over the last 13 years as a business. Our whole team have gone above and beyond this year and to be recognised as South Cheshire Business of The Year proves that hard work pays off.

A company is only as good as the employees that work for you and we truly believe that our achievements are down to our great people. We look forward to see what the next 12 months bring for us in the ever-changing world.

The History of Aqueduct Marina

A brief history lesson, Aqueduct Marina is located on the former site of a Dairy farm called “The Outlanes”.

The farm was called The Outlanes as it was in the “Outer-lanes” of Church Minshull, and in its prime was seen as an excellent farm with heavy clay land to the west and drier sandy land down to the River Weaver, meaning the grass grew in wet and dry seasons.

All was undisturbed until the Middlewich Branch of the Shropshire Union Canal linking Barbridge to Middlewich was opened in 1833 including the Aqueduct over the River Weaver, from which the existing marina name came from.

The construction of the canal resulted in some of the land being cut off to the north of the canal and only accessible via a now removed bridge, where the canal narrows at the north east corner of the marina. Despite this, Dairy farming continued until 2004 when the herd was sold, and plans started to enable the building of Aqueduct Marina which opened on Valentine’s Day 2009.

The original basis for the marina was that it was located in an area with heavy Cheshire clay so would hold water, was on a long stretch of lock free canal between Minshull Lock and Stanthorne Lock so levels would be stable, it is on the outside of a gentle curve so the silt should settle opposite the entrance, there was no need to cut through the towpath a public right of way, and probably most important to all boat owners, is that it is located at the centre of several canals all reachable within a few hours cruising.

The other benefits of the former farm location is that existing building could be converted, the workshops over looking the marina were formerly youngstock sheds and the facilities building is on the site of a former shippon and store, so designed to resemble the original shape. The large Brick Barns still await development.

The ensuing 14 years have seen the marina develop and the trees mature to what it is today. We believe many boat owners have enjoyed the location here in south Cheshire, with it 19th century canal and access to 21st century road, rail and airport links
