Autumn Report from the Captain’s Table

We have been busy over the summer making improvements and upgrades to Aqueduct Marina.

    On site Maintenance

Over the past couple of months, our friend John Harding has been busy completing some further site maintenance for us including re-stoning the short-term car park.

    Taking on Tough Mudder

We had a terrific day on Saturday 8th September when the Aqueduct Marina Team completed the North West Tough Mudder challenge at Cholmondeley castle.

Braving torrential rain and a gruelling 26 obstacles over 10 miles, the team of 11 completed the course in just over 2 and a half hours (phew!).

Middlewich Branch should be open by Christmas

The latest report issued by the Canal and River Trust suggests that the breach near Stanthorne should be open by Christmas.

    Welcome Georgia, Jane and Glen

We would like to wish Georgia, Jane and Glen a warm welcome to the Aqueduct Team.

    Autumn Newsletter

This season we are delighted to share with you a copy of our Autumn Newsletter highlighting all our latest news and events including: a day for boaters (what we got up to at our Open Event), an exciting social night to look out for on the August Bank Holiday, new arrivals on Brokerage, free electric on the marina and what mooring options are available for you to suit your cruising needs before Christmas!

    Tough Mudder Round Two

On Saturday 8th September we are toughing up for a second round of Tough Mudder returning to Cholmondeley Castle, Cheshire in aid of Kidney Research UK. 10 miles, 20 obstacles and the muddiest course in the UK, we will be pushing ourselves through sweat and tears, working together to conquer punishing obstacles to help raise awareness of Kidney disease. Our team of brave warriors include: Robert, Phil, Chris, Nick, Holly, Eleanor, Elizabeth, Johnny, Scott, Paul and Ben.

To share their story please visit www.justgiving.com/fundraising/holly-critchley – any sponsor would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

    Amerton makes it’s debut

As part of the refurbishments our maintenance team carried out extensive restoration to the tired vessel including completely rebuilding parts of hull and superstructure that with many years of arduous work had failed and was beyond repair…

New systems were also introduced including a new engine, craft location indicator and cruising equipment and the cabins were given a new lease of life with stylish yet practical accommodation creating a comfortable working environment for her crew.

Commenting on the success Chris Moran, General Manager said ‘It is essential that all craft are fit for purpose and can withstand the harsh environments they are subject to. All aspects of these vessels have been developed in collaboration with C&RT and other contractors and the combined effort has resulted in a boat that we believe in and will serve the waterways team well for many years to come.

Amerton first came to the marina from Nuneaton transported from Boot Wharf. Work started immediately with a good pressure wash before all the existing equipment and internal cabin fit-out was completely removed.

Following the welding and fabrication work being completed, which forms the initial stage of the process, a new hard wearing 2 Pac paint system was applied on blast cleaned steel in our purpose-built workshops.

Amerton is to be moored in Longport Wharf for the duration of the 6-week event in the presence of Canal and River Trust volunteers, before being moved to the West Midlands to start it’s new working life. Approximately 40 years old the reconstruction has now provided an additional 20 year’s life.

    A Day for Boaters

Running from 10am until 10pm, the day was specifically designed for boaters and took place on the site grounds located off the Middlewich Branch of the Shropshire Union Canal near Nantwich

The day offered the opportunity for owners to look at the marina’s new controlled painting environments, re-vamped chandlery and extensive engineering operations.

A selection of new and used boats were also offered for sale with new boat builders Knights Narrowboats and Aintree Boast also in attendance.

On land, professional staff, surveyors and suppliers were on hand to answer all boating questions from buying a boat through essential maintenance, mooring, painting and much more…

Canal societies and trade stands were also in attendance including Promarine Finance, GJW Direct, Canal and Rivert Trust, British Marine, Seddon Plants, Wurth Comsumables, Cover and Canvas, Shropshire Union Canal Society, SUMBA and the Small Task Team Volunteers. Other experts on site included Boat Surveyor Peter Tindall, Boat Safety Examiner Russ Smith and Keith Meadowcroft from Volt Master.

Boating was also made beautiful with a showcase of Aqueduct Marina’s most recent painting projects with all workshops open and three of the marinas prestigious narrowboats Another Fluke, Cheshire Star and Emen’s Friend on display. Live sign-writing demonstrations were also completed by Robin Wagg.

Commenting on the day Robert Parton, Marina Managing Director, said, ‘Having organised a successful Family Fun Day for the past 7 years the change of focus has enabled us to bring together a community of boaters giving existing customers the opportunity to catch up and new visitors the chance to get to know us. We are delighted with the response from the day and would like to thank all those who came. We would also like to say a special thank you to exhibitors, staff and boat owners.

Restoration work on the Canal & River Trust boats was available to view, with special workboats showcasing welding processes and boat fabrication.  The day rolled into the evening with a hog roast for moorers and live music performed by Alex Green. There was also a raffle with all funds going towards Kidney Research UK, the marina’s chosen charity for 2018.”

Clive Carter from GJW Direct commented, “I managed to provide 15 insurance quotations during the day and I am very hopeful that we will be able to turn the vast majority of these in to policies.  Several other people took away details and I also spoke to quite a few current GJW customers whose boats are moored in the marina.  I was busy all day with a good flow of people, but it was a very relaxed atmosphere and I was able to talk at length with everyone that attended my stand.”

Aqueduct Marina will be hosting the event again next year.
