Buying or selling a boat? We can help!

As we settle in to a second summer affected by COVID-19 restrictions, Robert Parton, MD of Aqueduct Marina, has been reviewing the pattern of our brokerage boat sales across the years. He took a specific look at our brokerage pipeline after the post-lockdown rush of May completions.

While the run rate is currently stable, looking forward it would appear our normal numbers of boats are now selling across the Brokerage. It is apparent that standard 58ft or less narrowboats are proving popular and are going under offer very quickly.

We are also seeing that these boats are also going from ‘offer accepted’ to ‘completion’ in less time, though thankfully nearly all boats are still having full surveys. This highlights that these buyers are very keen to be on the water this season. The side effect of this results in very few boats showing for sale at any one time on our website, giving the impression there are not many boats are available, which isn’t the case at all.

Many materials have experienced a steep pricing increase including steel, wood, and equipment. This will have a direct impact on new boat prices. We believe this will decrease the interest for new boat builds but will drive up or at least maintain the increased second-hand boat prices.

We are now back running at our standard number of boats selling a month. If we are able to carry on at this rate for the rest of this financial year it will mean, we sell around 20% less boats this year (which reflects the locked down period).

It is possible that we may make up the lost COVID months (Dec-March) with an Autumn surge, as boat owners take advantage of the higher prices, meaning we achieve nearer to our normal total number of boats sold through the brokerage. At this current time of writing, we have 3 boats for sale with many more ready to land on brokerage once the final papers have been signed.

With that being said, if you have made the decision to make this summer your last hurrah and are looking to hang up your windlass and sell in the autumn / winter, please get in touch. We know that making the decision to sell your boat has probably not been an easy one. Therefore, we will treat this decision with the utmost respect and give your boat the smooth sale it deserves.

Once we have discussed your initial requirements, we will arrange a free valuation of your boat. Our popular brokerage is never short of boat viewings, which means that your boat has the best chance of being sold here. Many of the boats that have come to us have been sold before they even make it onto the market!

We are extremely delighted to announce that Aqueduct Marina has retained it’s FIVE GOLD ANCHOR status as awarded by TYHA.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank our staff who have all contributed towards us achieving and now retaining this high standard.

This accolade is achieved through a site assessment of specific items across six evaluation categories which are:

In addition to this a berth holder survey is also conducted.

Once the assessor has completed their evaluation and report an accreditation recommendation is put to either TYHA or MIA Gold Anchor Standards Panels for approval. RAM on the loose

Meaning of Ram – a male sheep, battering ram or to roughly force (something) into place… well its fair to say that RAM, the boat, which was launched at Aqueduct Marina today, is anything but sheepish, battered nor rough!

RAM is actually a brand new Canal and River Trust work-boat, and represents months of hard work by our extremely talented operations team. All members of the team have been involved in the project from start to finish and we are all very proud of the final result. The Shell was built onsite by our fabrication team then handed over to the painting department where it has been grit blasted to SA 2.5 standards and coated with a 2 Pac epoxy coating. After this RAM was completely rebuilt including a brand new Beta engine,  internal fit out by Knights Narrow boats and electrical loom supplied by Loom Tech. The final painting touches where then applied including new C&RT logos and a hard wearing anti slip coating on the decks and walkways.

This craft has been very carefully designed and built to ensure that it is safe to use, comfortable for its users, extremely practical and will last the test of time as it helps with the vital maintenance work on our fantastic inland waterways.

Ambassador Business of the Year Award

The Ambassador of the Year Award sponsored by Cheshire East Council was open to any business trading within the Crewe and Nantwich area of South Cheshire. Judges from Cheshire East Council awarded Aqueduct Marina with this award as they displayed expertise and leadership in the field on a regional and national area.

Robert Parton MD of the five gold anchor marina commented on the award: “It is a huge privilege to accept this award on behalf of the whole Aqueduct Marina team.”

“This award rounds of our successful tenth anniversary year,  as it is especially rewarding to be acknowledged alongside many other brilliant South Cheshire companies. Our thanks go to the South Cheshire Chamber of Commerce, Cheshire East Council and master of ceremonies Cheshire Cat Radio.”

This award recognition for the Shropshire Union Canal based family marina joins the fourth consecutive Inland Marina of the Year award that was won at the Southampton International Boat Show in September.

Aqueduct Marina – Voted Inland Marina of the Year 2019

Aqueduct Marina is immensely proud to announce that we have been awarded TYHA Inland Marina or the Year 2019, sponsored by Towergate insurance. This prestigious award was given out at the 2019 Southampton Boat Show and is open to over 160 Gold Anchor accredited marinas split over four categories (UK Inland, UK coastal, International and Superyacht).

This is the forth time Aqueduct Marina has been selected for the award which is made all the more meaningful as it is voted for by berth holders and customers alike. We won’t however be resting on our laurels and plan to keep pushing the Marina forward over the next 12 Months and beyond in order to make sure that we continue to offer our customers the best boating experiences and more time to enjoy those experiences.

Philip Langley, Marina and Operations Director at Aqueduct Marina, commented: “Aqueduct Marina is extremely thrilled and honoured to be awarded Inland Marina of the Year 2019, especially as this honour is selected by popular vote. This is the perfect way to cap off our 10th anniversary year and the award really belongs to our fantastic staff, who work tirelessly to make sure our customers get the best boating experience possible. Also, we would like to thank all those who voted, and we look forward to welcoming our existing, new and returning customers over the year ahead”

Jon White, General Manager of The Yacht Harbour Association, commented: “I wanted to share a huge congratulations to all the winners and runners up, as well as all marinas who received votes in the 2019 Towergate Marina of the Year competition. Marinas play a crucial role in enabling more people to get out on the water, so we are delighted to celebrate and reward the excellent work our marinas have achieved this year.”
